Waking Up in Switzerland

January came and went, but it went in a big way. I turned 27 on the 27th which was crazy. I can't believe that I am 27, and have no idea where the past year went. I only had a mini panic attack, mostly directed at Joe (I'm sorry) but it wasn't as big of a panic as I was expecting. Getting old sucks haha. For my birthday, I got lots of flowers from mom and dad, Emily and Joe. Joe also got me a city-pass for when we are in Atlanta in a few weeks for my cousin's wedding. With it, we can go to a few of the museums and other touristy things, all for one price. It's really cool and since it's something we can do together, I was very excited.

Badrutt's Palace Hotel- Yes, this is where we stayed.
After a half-day at work, and pampering myself getting my nails done, Joe made me a birthday dinner. Spoiling me as he does, he wouldn't let me help with anything, but needless to say, our birthday dinner got cut a little short. In the middle of dinner I got a call from Mike at work asking if I would want to go to Switzerland the next day. At first I was shocked, and was thinking there was no way that I was getting on a plane the next day to go to Switzerland. After talking it over though, this was an opportunity I couldn't pass up, so we finished dinner and I headed home to pack.

The next day, Ally and I hopped on a plane and were off to St. Moritz (The Top of the World) for the Snow Polo World Cup. Since Thursday turned into Friday while traveling, we arrived and went basically right to dinner upon arrival. The six hour time difference really threw us off as far as talking to people and a sleep schedule.

The polo arena was on frozen Lake St. Moritz. Yes, the FROZEN lake.
The weekend was filled with filming and photographing polo games, as we were the only two from ChukkerTV to go. The games were really good, as they should have been considering it was a world cup. The backdrop was amazing and I had to keep reminding myself, yes, I am in Switzerland haha.

On Saturday night, there was a gala for everyone attending the event. Little did we know that it would be black-tie, so that afternoon after the games, we went around St. Moritz trying to find dresses. We did not pack anything fancy, as both of us just threw clothes in a suitcase last minute. Everything in town was very expensive, but thankfully as a last second thought I had thrown in two dresses from Express into my suitcase. So, that's what we wore to a black-tie fancy gala. We got some looks from old people, but we still looked the part and had a good time.

It was a whirlwind weekend of traveling, polo games, taking in breathtaking scenery, dinners and nights out. I don't think we got more than 12 hours of sleep the entire weekend, but it was well worth it. I am so happy that I was given the chance to go even if it messed up my plans for a weekend of birthday celebrations. Celebrating late back in Wellington and celebrating in Switzerland is something I won't forget.

Check out all my photos from the weekend here.
