Letting loose in NOLA

This past weekend was the final countdown to Kelsey's wedding. Six of us met up in New Orleans to celebrate her bachelorette party and send her off in style. We had the best weekend ever and let me say, it was a much-needed girls' getaway, for all of us.

We all arrived on Friday morning/early afternoon and started the day with drinks and walking around the French Quarter. We tried all the amazing food that New Orleans had to offer, such as Gumbo and Beignets. Everything was so good, and when I say we were all eating and drinking our way through the weekend, I am not exaggerating. For dinner, we checked out Bourbon House, which was right down the street from our adorable apartment (props to Kathryn for finding and organizing everything). Then for our first night on the town, we checked out Bourbon Street. A few bar hops and we made our way to the Bourbon Bad Boys, aka Magic Mike of New Orleans. OMG we had the best time- I mean, it was Kelsey's bachelorette party, of course we had to go.

Once we all woke up Saturday morning and got some coffee at the cutest coffee shop across the street, we went to Cajun Excursions for a Swamp Tour. I went in expecting it to be like the tours in the Everglades, but it was so much fun. Our tour guide was really entertaining, we were on a boat with a bachelor party and as a group we just had a good time. Saturday night we checked out Oceana, one of the top restaurants in New Orleans. The food was fantastic. We all split gator bites (which was a trending food of the weekend) and they got me to try oysters- which I surprisingly enjoyed. All of the food we ate over the weekend was amazing. Saturday night was another night on Bourbon Street, although we did take it a little easier.

To end the weekend (for me at least, as the other girls stayed till Monday) Kelsey wanted to take a cooking class at the New Orleans School of Cooking. We sat in on a two hour demonstration of how to make Gumbo, Jambalaya, Bread Pudding and Pralines. The best part - we got to eat all of it. It was cool learning and getting the recipes of all the foods we'd been tasting all weekend. Before I headed to the airport, Kelsey, Holly and I visited this shop called Hex and met with a Psychic. I was not convinces at all before we went, but after she read my cards, she was spot on. I would totally do something like that again. It was the best weekend we could have asked for and the best way to celebrate Kelsey's upcoming wedding.  (There were a million other photos, but then the post would have been three times as long)

Tomorrow morning I head home for the weekend to celebrate Ben's High School graduation. Holy crap, he's graduating. Yeah, now I feel old. Stay tuned for an update next week from the festivities :)
