My Week at Camp, aka Fox Lea Horse Show
This week has been fantastic. Mike was gracious enough to let me work remotely so I could show with Castlewood at the Fox Lea Horse Show. It was Lorenzo and my first time in the show ring together and I could not have been happier.
We started the "Pre-Camp Smores" show on Sunday, where we just had a quick lesson after a week off. Lorenzo was perfect and just popped around the jumps like it was no big deal. The first day of the show officially started on Monday and we competed in the Low Adults. Our first class was a little shakey, which was my fault. My nerves got the best of me and as soon as Lorenzo realized he was in the show ring and perked up, I got tense and started reacting. Our second class was perfect though. We ended up fourth and fifth out of 15, so for our first day, I was ecstatic.
On Tuesday, we went back into the ring to finish out the division. After a few warm-up jumps we went right into the ring and were off. I could not have asked for anything better. Lorenzo was perfect and such a super star. We missed one distance in both classes and he jumped beautifully. With a class of 15 again, we were fifth and fifth. Like I said, my boy was amazing.
On Wednesday, it poured and poured all day. We were supposed to show around 12:30 and ended up competing around 3:30. It was well worth it though as Lorenzo continued to be a rock star. It was not my best day of riding as my nerves got the best of me. However, as the division progresses, so did we. Our first class was a disaster (my own doing) then our second class was perfect except for one jump (my doing). Then we went ahead and won our flat class.
For our first time at a show together and my first time back in the ring in months, I could not have been happier. Lorenzo was a rock star and took rediculous care of me. I rode well and now I know what we have to work on still, aka my nerves getting the better of me. Hopefully we will have more chances to get in the ring at the end of the summer and this fall, so I can redeem myself.
Thank you to everyone at Castlewood for making me feel part of the barn family. Lorenzo and I had a great time and can't wait to get back at it. For now, it is back to the real world for us working girls.
