Getting Back in the Saddle, aka Back in the Show Ring

I must say it's been a while since I have polished my tall boots, put on my show clothes and tied a number around my back. As all the usual nerves came rushing back, it still felt pretty good to be back in the show ring.
After about six months, two of those working with Dixie, we were ready to make our horse show debut. On Saturday we competed at the Citrus Series here in Wellington. It was a very low-key schooling type show, but it allowed us both to get our feet wet and see what we needed to work on.

Dixie was a little tired.
For our first time out, at a show and off of the property together, I would call it a successful outing. We had a few mishaps, where Dixie didn't quite want to jump a few of the fences, but when we did jump them, we were flawless.

I could not have been happier with her and am so excited to see where we can go and how much we can do together. We ended up second in the over-fences class, and received the second place in the flat class as well (which we should have won).

Besides getting back into rhythm of showing, the rest of the weekend was spent relaxing in the Florida sunshine. As much as I was complaining about the horrible weather we have been having in my last post, this past weekend was gorgeous. It was perfect show weather and the ideal day to lounge at the pool and work on my non-existent tan. After a 5:30 wake up call and a day in the sun, I  called it an early night so I was ready to go to the beach on Sunday :)   (I said it was a day in the sun) Tiff and I went to Juno Beach and the water was gorgeous. Yes, I went in the water. The sun was super hot out and the sand even hotter, so the water felt amazing. Even though there were tiny fish swimming around that I was not a fan of.

So now the weekend of relaxing is over and it's back to work. But I get lots of visitors this week :) Dad is coming down to dinner on Tuesday since he has meetings on Wednesday and then Mom and maybe Bubby get here Wednesday till Sunday :) So it is going to be a busy week but definitely worth it.
Nothing like ending the day Skyping with the monsters :)
