Here's to the start of something new!
Here's to the start of a new chapter in the life of Ari.
After a little more than two years, Friday was my last day at the Hunterdon County Democrat. I went in knowing nothing about newspapers, except how to copy edit. I left knowing how to lay out a paper from start to finish, being able to put together eight papers a week. (at one point all by myself) I learned how to become a better writer and engage readers in conversation. The staff put together a little lunch as a going away party and I will miss them. As my own going away gift, I wrote my last column for the paper, which I hope will get a few comments, as my others have.

Last weekend, my mom and one of the women at the barn put on a surprise engagement party for my trainers, Jackie and Kevin. The whole thing went off without a hitch, and they were so surprised.
The whole barn was there, their families were there and it was a beautiful day out. I have been training with Kevin since I was a freshman in high school, so to be able to be a part of it, especially right before I head south, was very special.
The whole day was documented, by yours truly, the Mill Stone photographer. Guess Ill have to pass that title along.
Also this past week, Charlie went home. My awesome horse who I had been leasing since April, went back home to his owners. I have to say that without a doubt, that was the best horse I have ever had the chance to ride. Besides George, who is always the best, Charlie taught me the most that any horse have ever been able to. He wasn't the most affectionate, and definitely had his issues, but he was the best teacher. I learned to truly ride and be a part of what was going on underneath me, not just go along for the ride and let it happen. I had the best summer of showing and riding I have ever had and I owe it all to that chestnut who I will miss terribly.
Now, it is to the next adventure. This week is my free week from work, yet I am sure it will be non-stop. I have lots of packing, as my whole life is being moved 1800 miles south. I am sure I will be spending most of my time at the barn, riding what I can and loving on George. As well as trying to hang out with some friends and family. But I am ready for what is next and cannot wait to see what happens.
