A Certain Kind of Crazy
Summer has officially come to a close, but the heat does not seem to be disappearing anytime soon. Labor Day weekend was a welcome break for the craziness that has been work and the start of class and I definitely made the most of it. The three-day weekend was sun-filled and a perfect way to 'end the summer.'
To kick off the weekend, Joe and I went mini golfing in Jupiter at Lighthouse Cove Adventure. With two courses to choose from, the management sells wine and beer that you can take on the course with you. A bottle of wine in tow, and we were ready to go. Competition was close the entire game and it all came down to the last hole. Miraculously, I won by one stroke and I have no doubt that we will be having a re-match soon.
Bright and early Saturday morning, Penn State was already halfway through the first game of the season when we woke up. Playing at Croke Field in Ireland, Penn State had a mindblowing game against UCF. First we were winning, then losing, then tied, then losing again. In the last three seconds, Sam Fickin, our kicker and captain scored the winning fieldgoal. I was holding my breath and I am sure I wasn't alone. Penn State is off to a great start for the season, as always, WE ARE... PENN STATE!
The day of football continued with the USF game Saturday night. For me, the game was not as exciting, but Joe could not sit still. His alma mater pulled off a win as well, so it was a good opening day all around.
The fun-filled weekend continued with bowling Sunday night, in Delray Beach. Uncle Ronnie was in town and looking for something to do for the night, Joe and I drove to meet him and played a few games of bowling. I may have found my hidden talent, but I still think I will be sticking with the horses full-time.
The jam-packed weekend didn't stop there though, as we had Monday off from work :) Instead of being like everyone else and spending the day at the beach, Joe, Alex, Grant and I headed for the Everglades. It was a gorgeous day and we were off to look for some alligators.
We started our alligator adventure with an airboat ride, where we saw four alligators swimming in the water. Captain Mike pointed out each spot where we could find them and also some information about the Everglades. You definitely have to be a certain kind of crazy to captain an airboat, let alone work at Holiday Park.
Captain Mike kept calling the gators over to the boat, by name. And every time, they came swimming, just like dogs come when they are called. My feeling is that they were being fed, and knew to come when the boats came around. He seemed very attached to Bubba, Big Bubba, Grumpy, Jesse and all the other alligators we did and did not see. He even called some of the birds over to the boat. Like I said, a certain kind of crazy.
After seeing all the gators, we went and had some gator nuggets. Ironic, I know. I was very hesitant, but they were actually pretty good. So now I can say that I have eaten alligator. Not something I thought I would ever say.

We had a fun day and it was a very good weekend. This time last year, I had just finished a visit in Florida for the weekend and vowed that it would be the last time I got on a plane to come visit. Needless to say, I was right :)
