Is this real life?
This weekend has been an absolute whirlwind.
Friday, I spent my day covering the show. It was cold out too. Well, cold for Florida. Nice for Pennsylvania. I was able to watch the older adults, and I am getting to know the riders and horses, from watching them ride in either multiple divisions, or just from being at the ring almost every day. It's cool knowing everyone and recognizing names. The Amateur Owners and Older Juniors also showed, which was different than what I did last week. I love watching the juniors. Those horses are amazing and I would love to bring one home.
Speaking of bringing horses home, I almost bought a mini pony. (Well, I wanted to) Holly, you would have been very happy, Jackie would not have, and the pony, ButterScotch was absolutely adorable.
ButtersScotch was a live auction item at the 10th Annual JustWorld International Gala. I helped out on Friday night, along with Emily. The masquerade party was so much fun. Everyone from the equestrian community was there. We could not believe that we were at a party with Georgina Bloomberg, Laura Kraut. Reed Kessler, Nick Skelton, Alexandra Crown, and more. (For those who aren't horse people, those are Olympians and big names). I was celebrity stalking a bit. :) I guess I should get used to it and not be so shell-shocked or it is going to be a long few months.
JustWorld is a non-profit that acts to change the developing world by working with local partners to provide basic education, nutrition, health and more to kids in Honduras, Cambodia and Guatamala. The Gala had venetian live statues, a venetian band playing when you walked up to the barn. Yes, it was at their amazing barn in Grand Prix Village. Everyone took part wearing masks. There was a live and silent auction to raise money. One of the highlights of the live auction, was a week of polo lessons with three gorgeous polo players- Nic Roldon, Brandon Philips and Kris Kampsen.
Also this weekend, was the Howlin' Hoedown for Big (& Little) Dog Ranch Rescue. www.bdrr.org
It was another success raising record amounts of money for the rescue. There was line dancing and some of the dogs were there to greet guests as they entered the event. Three of the dogs were adopted by the end of the weekend!
Continuing the theme of my unreal life, I have been playing phone tag with Laura Kraut, yes the Olympian. Still boggles my mind that I am in constant contact with these amazing riders. And Phelps has decided to pay us! They say that they have never had three interns at once and we are doing an amazing job. I love it here and hope this bodes well for the future.
