No rest for the weary

So life has been a little hectic, but no more than I expected. It was a crazy first week in Wellington and at Phelps, but I wouldn't trade this for anything.

This is mini George. I found him on the show grounds. Makes me miss my boy.
I was able to cover the adult hunter division and the small juniors this week, which was a good start to the season. Since my mom rides in the adults, and we watch the juniors all the time at home, it was a good place to start out. The winners in the adult classes had clean sweeps, making for an impressive opening week.

Last night was the fifth annual Battle of the Sexes. It is a fun jumper class, where the boys go up against the girls, in three different matches. A speed/fault round, a match race, and a six-bar. The atmosphere at the show grounds made it such a fun and exciting night. They had the new carousel up and running, there was carnival food vendors, fire jugglers, a live band, and two skydivers opened up the event. It truly was a family affair and had the community of Wellington involved in addition to the horse community.

The women defended their title as victors, but it was a very close call. The men won the first round, and were tied after the match races. Going into the six-bar, only Nick Skelton, Cindy King and Georgina Bloomberg made it to the final round. The fact that it was two against one and both women went clear, is what clinched the victory. It was a hectic night snapping photos and then taking interviews, but thankfully I had help writing down scores for the classes.

I also had a pet for a few days. There was a lizard living in the kitchen sink in the apartment and he refused to come out. Apparently, lizards are a common thing in Florida and will just appear all over. They are about the size of a half dollar, but that does not mean that I want them running around the apartment. I attempted to get him out of the sink, but after refusing to come int the cup that I tried to scoop him out with, I just let the water run and tried to flush the lizard downt the sink. I am just hoping he doesn't come back. In the meantime, the cup is still over the drain, so he can't come out and wander around. O the joys of wildlife.

The lovely GlenEagles, where I currently call home.
