I never want to leave

After almost a month down here in Wellington, I have decided that I never want to leave.

I am doing exactly what I want to be doing. This is what I always said I wanted to do. Come to the horseshows and write. And all day, every day, I go to the horse shows and watch classes, take pictures, talk to riders I have looked up to and then go home and write about it. I could not ask for anything better. This is the best experience ever and it still seems surreal at times when riders just come up at start talking to you, or George Morris calls you on your cell phone.

It's been a crazy week though. I had company all week for my birthday, which was always good :)

Work is non-stop, but I will never complain about my job. Yes, I'm tired all the time, but that comes with being in the sun all day. On Tuesday, the three of us interns met with Ron Davis, the director of a new documentary about Snowman and Harry de Leyer. I had heard about the horse, but never really knew what he was about. He was the best show jumper of the time. And we get to write the articles promoting it.

The rest of the week was spent at the show. I am getting pretty good with horses and names and recognizing people. After four weeks, it is not as intimidating to go up and interview the big names as it was on day 1. Scott Stewart and I actually talk ringside haha.

On Wednesday, I went with Rebecca, one of the Account Executives, to Palms Stable and had a lesson on Hampton, a very large Warmblood, with a very large stride. It felt so good to really ride. And jump. I jumped a full course. Twice. I miss jumping and really riding. I think I am going to go back next week and lesson again. Try to get into a routine. And Kendall said I can go ride with her, so maybe I can start riding more than once. Wouldn't that be nice. I miss riding so much.

Thursday night, the group of us went to the food trucks again. It is definitely going to be a weekly outing. There are so many options and foods to choose from. It is the one night of the week, where all the healthy eating goes out the window. Saturday, Emily and Rebecca showed at a schooling show at Nona Garson's. Emily got second place. First time jumping since school, which is awsesome. Rebecca won champion on her horse Emry. They even did the hunter derby, jumping out of the ring. I told my mom she needs to send my show clothes down here so I can show next time. Saturday night was the Grand Prix. Those horses absolutely amaze me. I have no clue how they can jump those fences. They are so willing and want to do their job. The fences must be over 5 foot, yet the horses clear it with no problem.

Pete left today. so I spent the majority of the day catching up on work and cleaning. My grandparents come down to Florida tomorrow, and I haven't decided if that is a good thing or a bad thing yet. They are bringing my show clothes though, so maybe I can show soon. Fingers crossed.
